Post 3 Saturday 17th of July

Dear diary

Today has been one of my greatest days ever! You know Australia is a very big country, but mostly of the land is actually covered with desert. And I was really hoping that I could have time to take a trip to the desert one of the days, but the time didn’t allow it. Instead I have spent the day in another way.

Australia is a big island, and therefore it’s not a surprise that the water-sports in Australia are extremely popular. You can choose almost whatever you want; everything from surfing and snorkelling to scuba diving, fishing, boating, among a host of others. And it says that here you can ride atop heaven kissing waves, explore the fabulous marine life, swim with majestic sharks, ride on small boats even as you soak in the beauty of lovely locales, and ski. Didn’t that sound great? And that’s just some of the things the Australian water-sports offers!

And for today I’ve chosen scuba diving. It's such an amazing experience to dive in the bottom of the ocean and swim through the ocean's many secrets. To scuba dive is something I have dreamed of doing every day since I was a little child. I actually remember that I wanted a new pair of webbed feet for every Christmas, and I always got some. But then my mother became tired of this, because she wanted to give me something else that I actually where going to use. You see, we didn’t have any kind of a pool back home, we just had a small bathtub!

Anyway... Because I was going to scuba dive I had to prepare, and I had a hurry time because we were going to the Australian bush afterwards. But there was not at any place we were going to dive, because we were going to the Great Barrier Reef!

When you look at the map you see that on the eastern side of the country you will find the Pacific Ocean, and on the western side the Indian Ocean. And as you may know you’ll find the Great Barrier Reef at the north-east side of Australia.

...

You have no idea of how beautiful it’s under the surface. To scuba dive in the Great Barrier Reef every person on the earth need to experience. It was really beautiful down there. A lot of colours and different creations made it like a dream. When I swam, fishes were surrounding me from every corner, and I just felt like I was an ugly, fat fish. You see; absolutely every fish had a selection of many beautiful colours, and there were things down there that you just have seen on the most pro programs on TV.

And I have to say that we were really lucky when it came to the weather. Not that I noticed it when I was diving, but the sun has been shining every day this week. Even though I went to Australia in the winter, it's a very nice weather here. The climate have usual a temperate and moderately fertile soil in the south-east and south-west corners. The northern part of the country has a tropical climate, varied between tropical rainforests, grasslands, part desert.

In the end I would like to say that this has been my absolutely greatest journey in my entire life! It has just been an amazing experience, and I’ve got the chance to do so much fun and interesting things. Of course I was hoping that I could spend some more days in this beautiful country, but I do also hope that there is somebody waiting for me back home. And it was sad that I didn’t have the time to experience Uluru, or Ayers Rock, but I know that I someday will return.

No I have to go because we are going to the Australian bush, and hopefully have a look at the Australian kangaroos. And after that it’s time to travel back home... a 35 hours long flight.

Thanks for everything! xoxo

Post 2 Friday16th of July

Dear diary

Yesterday we arrived the biggest city in Australia, Sydney of course. We came at night which was pretty awesome. All the huge buildings and the skyscrapers made me freak out, again! It was skyscrapers everywhere, and the lights from the buildings and big commercials were shining up the whole town. I was really looking forward to the next day, when I was supposed to experience the Australian culture.

Today I’m sure I’ve walked more than 10 miles! To spend a whole day in a big-town is extremely tiresome. It was people everywhere; in the streets, at the toilets, at the restaurants, at the bus, and even at the cash dispenser. And all the time I felt like I was an ant!

The first thing I did today was to visit the Sydney Opera House. I have always dreamed of taking a perfect picture of the beautiful building, and now I have J Just look:

Then it was time for shopping! When I first spend some days in a big city I just have to go shopping. Otherwise this hasn’t been a perfect vacation, at least not for me. And to walk and look for touristic attractions all the time is not always that great. So I went to the main shopping centre in Sydney, who is called the Pitt Street Mall on Pitt Street. Here it was a huge selection of shops, and I really felt like this was a paradise. The only thing I found a little bit annoying was all the people. It was like every person from earlier today was following me, and that was creepy!  So when I was looking at some dresses at a rack, women just went by all the time and I didn’t have a chance to look at the dresses.

After a short while I was worn-out and tired, so I went to get some food. I had bought a lot of stuff and I was really starving, so I hadn’t more energy than to eat at a place just nearby. When I looked at the menu, I saw they offered kangaroo for lunch, but since I was going to experience these beautiful animals tomorrow, I wouldn’t dare to eat it. So I bought me a sandwich instead, sat down and just listened to the Australian music from the radio in the restaurant. And I have to say that I love the Australian music. You have no idea of how peaceful and soporific the music is! I was actually afraid of falling to sleep at the restaurant, but I managed to stay awake. I guess I had been kicked out if I hadn’t!

But when we are talking about Australian music; have you ever heard of the instrument Didgeridoo? It’s an instrument developed by Indigenous Australians of northern Australia at least 1,500 years ago. And today when I was walking in Pitt Street I saw a man who was playing at a Didgeridoo. It made a really funny and strange sound! And the man even played well, so I just had to give him some money.

The man who was playing a Didgeridoo

But now I have to go. I have to prepare for tomorrow, because tomorrow we are going to have a lot of fun!

My travel blog (1)

A journey to Australia

So I went to Australia as you know to have a memorable and perfect vacation, but also to experience something new. Well, it was not a secret that I loved to go shopping, but I was also curious about the differences between home and Australia. I had been told that the nature in Australia was beautiful, and that when you left the country, you just wanted to go back. And I have to say it; I really want to go back!

As we travelled around in Australia I had a lot of great experiences. Then I came up with the brilliant idea of how to remember those things even better than just by taking pictures. And that was; to write a diary. Then I really could express myself and bring my memories to the paper. So here you go, part 1.

Monday 12th of July

Dear Diary

Today started with me being star-struck when I suddenly meet Kylie Minogue!

I was supposed to take the elevator alone in stillness to reach the breakfast at the hotel. When the elevator was on its way down to the breakfast-hall, it stopped at the 3rd floor, and a well-known person came in. I’ve never had a problem with the breath earlier in my life, but this few seconds in the elevator with Kylie was really problematic! I couldn’t take any risk if I had a foul breath. When we arrived the breakfast-hall I had to run into the toilet and take a deep breath, before I washed my face with ice-cold water. I’ve never ever meet a famous person, and to know that Kylie Minogue is living at the same hotel as me, is making me freak out. And it’s a little bit funny, and a huge coincidence that the star is visiting her homeland at this time. But we are going to stay here in Melbourne for just a couple of days anyway...

I also have to say that in this very short time I’ve been in Australia, I can see a lot of different people. It’s really clear that Australia has been immigrated from several countries and nations, and that it also has been a lot of settlers here in Australia. And one more thing I have to say before I go to bed is that I’ve finally understood the meaning by the Australian flag. You see, it has the Union Flag in the canton, and a large seven-pointed star under the Union Flag were six of the points represents the six original states in Australia, and the five stars to the left contains a representation of the Southern Cross constellation.
